Hi. You've reached Will...I'm not here, and I probably won't check this. But, on the off chance I do, you should leave a message.

[The first thing he does upon waking up is turn his bracelet on to contact Will. He'd already packed his and Arthur's things for the day, and now he's just got to head over to Heimdall's welcome hall.]

Will. [Merlin stops, looking apologetic.] I've got to head out with Arthur for the next couple of days. Will you be all right?

[He had been hoping to get to see and talk with Merlin a little more, but as per the only time he was around both Merlin and Arthur, Will noticed that Merlin was very serious about staying by his side.]

I was fine when you went to Camelot, wasn't I? I'll be fine.

[That didn't mean he wouldn't miss the other.]

Things are far from as boring as they were in Ealdor.

It's--different this time, Will.

[You weren't dead when he first went to Camelot.]

'sides, someone has to keep you out of trouble.

What trouble can I possibly get into.

[Said with the straightest face. Yeah, he's poking fun at you. He's going to get into trouble and maybe even a fight.]

You'll have heard the news by now. The battle starts tomorrow.

[A pause.]

Will you be out there fighting?

[He'd asked you to join in, the last time he spoke to you, but now he'd rather see you stay inside. Seeing you die once is enough for him. Too much, even.]

And die again? No. This place isn't Ealdor, and I like being alive Merlin.

All right. [That's at least one person he doesn't have to worry about then.]

The Welcome Halls should be safe enough, but if there's trouble, you should go to the shelter in Freyr district.

You'll be careful, right? It would be bad if you died in a place like this.

I-- [Have to look after Arthur.] I'll be careful.

[He musters a smile.] I'll be fine, Will. You don't have to worry.

[He sighs rubbing at his face.]

You're really bad at lying. Really bad.

Maybe. [Merlin rubs at his face, too, chuckling lowly.]

Guess some things never change.

[On Will's desk, there's a small bundle of cookies--round medallions with red glaze in the shape of fire on one side. Folded neatly next to the cookies is a dark blue winter coat. The note reads: ]

Something to keep you warm in the Yule season. Let's meet up more often.

Merlin

[After some debating, Will punches in Merlin's stuff and he rubs the back of his neck as he waits for it to connect. He has to say something.]

Will? What's the matter? [He has a feeling it's about the gifts.]

[He licks his lower lip before he purses them. He didn't expect the other to actually answer. He opens his mouth and-]

Miss me did you?

[Really, Will? Merlin snorts, shaking his head.]

What gave me away?

[He points the camera at the coat.]

You didn't have to, but it's nice.

It's Yule, Will. [Rolling his eyes now.]

We might have been happy giving each other small gifts back in Ealdor, but now that I can give people nicer things...why shouldn't I?

I just said it was nice, but you shouldn't worry about me.

You're my friend, Will. One of my best friends, if you don't remember.

Of course I'm going to worry about you.

Of course I remember. What other idiot would take the blame for someone he wasn't close to.

I'm fine. Don't worry bout me.

Too late. [Merlin says under his breath.]

Look, you're free tomorrow, aren't you? I'll come meet you.

[He sets his jaw. Normally he'd just say "no" or say something inconsiderate. But the other did give him a gift, and he also missed the other. A lot. He had since the other had left the first time.]

Fine, where would you like to meet?

[Merlin sends him a searching look.]

Why don't you pick, Will?

No, I want you to pick.

[Stop being so difficult :| ]

All right. What about...near the library?

[For a change of pace.]

Sure, that sounds good.

[He's not being difficult, he's trying to be nice Merlin. Give him a little credit.]

I'll be near the entrance.

[He wavers, not wanting to end the call just yet, but figures he can say anything important when they see each other the next day.]

See you there.

[Both of them have a lot that they are dancing around. Will hesitates before he nods, and then he gives a small cautious smile.]

Sounds good. I'll be waiting.

[ Even Will gets a rose! Although Percival does not yet know him particularly well, he did not want to leave him out. There is a hand-written note attached to the stem. ]

I am told today is one for celebrating the bonds we share with others. Please accept my regards.
